Summertime, Fun In The Sun!

... But Not Too Much!

As we all know, summertime is here! This means more time outside in the sun, and sure a slight tan can look nice, but how do you know when you are getting too much sun? And is that tan really worth the side effects?
Well, the sun is obviously a necessity of life, but you only need it for about 15 minutes a day in order to absorb a decent amount of Vitamin D into your body.
Whenever I hear about people laying out in the sun in order to get a tan I tell them to stop doing it! It is so unhealthy for your skin to lay out for long periods of time, especially in the summer. Too much time in the sun can lead to premature aging (wrinkles), sunburns, and most importantly it can lead to skin cancer.
So how can you stay safe in the sun? Clearly, the best option is to wear sunscreen. The best time to apply is in the morning after you shower. Also, if your skin is going to be in contact with the sun through out the day, you are going to need to reapply your sunscreen every 1 and a half to 2 hours.
I know that it can be relaxing or even fun to lay out in the sun by the pool with your friends, but you have to decide if it is worth the sunburn, peeling skin, aging skin, and even diseases like skin cancer. Also remember, you do not need a tan to look good during the summer.
So wear your protective clothing, and don't forget to put on the sunscreen, or you could end up like Kim Kardashian in the photo above (where she was on vacation and didn't put on sunscreen) and even worse...
